For the last few months, most of my waking hours have been spent in the office. The fall is typically my busiest time of year at work and this season did not disappoint. I’ve been neglecting nearly all of my loved ones and have relied solely on Anthony to do my laundry, cook my meals, and generally keep my life from falling to pieces. What I lost in relaxing evenings at home, I gained in endless hours of binging podcasts. I wanted to put together a list of a few of my favorites I’ve discovered and rediscovered recently for those looking for some new obsessions.

Chicks in the Office

This was the podcast that got me into podcasts. Ria and Fran from Barstool Sports make the best videos on Instagram and when they started a podcast I was immediately on board. They cover all things pop culture with a special affinity for Bachelor recaps and the Jonas Brothers — so it truly speaks right to my heart. It’s basically like having a conversation with a friend about the latest E! News article. So if you’re interested in keeping up with not just the Kardashians but basically everyone, this might be the one for you.

My Favorite Murder

Almost every Friday night of my childhood was spent at home watching Dateline with my mom. Her love of true crime has definitely rubbed off on me and when I found this podcast, I binged all two years of episodes available. It’s a crime podcast made by two comedians which seems like an odd combination. It’s not comedy in the sense that they’re making light of the crime but rather it’s like the appalled, funny commentary you would give while watching 20/20 with a friend (or, if you’re like me, your mom). They spare no details (and curse quite a bit) so definitely not family friendly but a must if you’re as true crime obsessed as I am. I could recommend quite a few podcasts in this genre (Crime Junkie, Confronting OJ Simpson, Cold, etc.) but this is my favorite.

This podcast was made by the New York Times as an expansion of an article they published a few months back. This year is the four hundredth anniversary of the first slaves arriving to this country after having been bought by settlers of Virginia. The podcast explores the complicated racial history that has happened in this country since its inception. It explores the idea of patriotism and how African-Americans have continually shaped the culture of this country and helped it to achieve its success. It’s fascinating and important and extremely well done. It’s still in progress so there’s only a few episodes out so but I’m excited to see where it goes.

Supersoul Conversations

I hope it’s not too dramatic to say that this podcast has changed my life. This was another of the first podcasts I listened to and it was also where I first heard Brene Brown speak so it’s been a biggie for me. On this podcast, Oprah she speaks with all kinds of spiritual leaders and accomplished professionals and discusses different parts of the human experience. It’s incredibly insightful and has increased my ability to deal with life in a healthy and productive way. It’s the zen, peaceful podcast I switch to listening after too many hours of crime podcasts.

These are my go-to’s! I constantly need new things to listen to so if you have any recommendations of podcasts you love, let me know!
